    OMR – a marketing event of a different kind

    Short hair, simple glasses, tall, slim, in a suit – that’s how you might imagine the classic “I-can-turn-everything-around” brandeteer. But if you think of a digital marketing employee at ONELINE, our customers know exactly that we do not fulfil this stereotype. We know exactly the same things that the classic marketer knows, but we know a lot more – we know how next-level marketing works!

    And to actually raise this knowledge to another level, the whole ONELINE team was on the plane to Hamburg on Monday evening, 16 May 2022, to soak up 2 days of concentrated marketing knowledge. It was off to the OMR!

    OMR – excuse me!?

    A short and concise explanation of what the three letters mean:

    O = ONLINE
    M = MARKETING
    R = ROCKSTARS

    Says it all, doesn’t it? OMR is an association for marketing makers. And it is precisely this association that organises a top-class 2-day festival once a year.

    • 500+ Exhibitors
    • 700+ speakers
    • 23 masterclasstracks
    • 10 stages and and and

    And of course an immense number of visitors. Right in the middle of the action: the ONELINE team.

    Caught. What a headline! “Junior marketing manager in the spotlight”. Well, it wasn’t enough for a stage appearance à la Quentin Tarantino (this year :-P). But, to console the Junior Marketing Manager a little, all the spotlights are now on her – even if it’s only in this article. This ONELINE team member, mostly dressed in colourful or patterned clothes and seemingly wearing different glasses every day, was also part of the party at OMR. This ONELINE team member is me: Natascha.

    My speciality, however, is not to list the facts and figures of an event. These can be impressive, but the most brilliant thing about such an event report is when you can switch on your head cinema; and that’s what I’m responsible for now.

    If this article were an audio book, this is what I would say from the ONELINE X OMR playlist right now: Close your eyes and come on a journey with the Marketeers.

    Well, I can’t say, because this next-level marketing strategy called playlist is still in progress. That’s why I would recommend: Use your superpower “imagination with open eyes”.

    “We wish you a good stay in Hamburg”.

    Yes, well, it was a bit late when our pilot spoke the sentence “please fasten your seatbelts again, we will be landing in a few minutes” through the microphone, in ultra poor aircraft microphone quality. Because during the flight, my eyes actually fell shut. Luckily, I was able to gather energy for the upcoming first OMR day.

    Once we arrived in Hamburg, we were chauffeured to our Airbnbs and then fell into bed sometime early in the morning.

    beep beep the alarm clock woke us up again, almost 2 hours later. But there was no sign of tiredness, because we were ready! We were standing in the starting blocks. We were ready for the OOOOOOOOMMMMMMRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!

    A short walk and there we were, on the grounds of OMR. As it turned out later, big boss Sami’s speech “we’ll meet at 9 a.m. sharp in front of the OMR entrance” was a blessing. Because only a few hours later we could observe the entrance from above the festival site: a seemingly endless queue of people had formed, waiting to get in. However, we were already inside at this point: Aaagh!

    The site was divided into different areas, stages, halls, etc. The fact was: the area had a lot to offer!

    The ONELINE team quickly lost sight of each other, as the various activities and exhibitors seemed to magically draw us in. And so it happened from time to time that one got lost in a conversation with another, non-ONELINE brandeteer, and a little later ended the conversation with “Oops, where have my team colleagues disappeared to”.

    My conclusion of the first day

    Admittedly, my plan was indeed to storm the stage. Well, I mean, the stage of this article. Somehow, though, there are so many impressions that I don’t think a reader can really imagine it as it actually was. The huge queue of people in front of the entrance area, the exhibitors, the stages, the attractions and so on. The first day brought so many things with it that it’s hard to put them into words. In any case, I’m looking forward to not only telling you about the journey and the first impressions, but also to taking you a little “deeper into the OMR” in the next article. And of course, don’t forget to record the second day in writing.

    Marketeer greetings
    Natascha
